OUR STORY
During a trip to Nigeria in 2006, an important event would set the creation of the foundation into motion. After making a casual trip to the market, Bolatito comes across the Almajiri children who are wandering through every street in a desperate attempt to sustain themselves forgotten by the system they relied on. This encounter caused Bolatito to return home, her consciousness shattered, driven to tears by how powerless she felt in bettering their situation.
Shortly after, Bolatito and her husband gathered their funds to purchase and donate cooking ingredients to an Almajiri community in Abuja. However, events would take an unexpected turn. Arriving at the site in high spirits, ready to donate food to the children, the gravity of the situation reveals itself. As the car pulled up by the side of the road, similar to wolves hunting, the couple is swarmed by the inhabitants. The swarm wasn’t one of excitement but rather that of desperation, bags of rice torn from the couple’s car, scattered across the road, grains of spilled rice swept from the roadside in hopes to find a meal for the day, it was a heart-breaking sight to behold.
Returning home with renewed determination, the foundation took its early form, enlisting the help of friends and family to tackle the inequalities around Nigeria. But the story doesn’t end there….
